Saint Anthony, also known as Saint Anthony of Padua or of Lisbon, was a Portuguese Franciscan friar and theologian, born in 1195 in Lisbon and passing away in 1231 in Padua, Italy. He is one of the most popular saints in Catholicism and is known as the “matchmaker saint,” often invoked by those seeking marriage or the recovery of lost objects.
Saint Anthony was a great preacher and defender of the poor, recognized for his deep wisdom and miracles attributed to him, such as bilocation and preaching to fish. He was canonized just one year after his death by Pope Gregory IX and, in 1946, was granted the title of Doctor of the Church. His feast day is celebrated on June 13, especially with great devotion in Portugal and Brazil.
